Gremlins is a fantastic horror/comedy film that was released in 1984. Joe Dante was the director (Gremlins 2, Small Soliders, The Burbs). Shot on a budget of about 11 Million dollars, this film has definitely raked in more than expected. "Gremlins" left the box office with a hefty total of 153 Million+. The Screenplay was written by Chris Columbus, this screenplay being one of his first ever written. The film revolves around Billy, played by Zach Galligan, his girlfriend Kate played by Phoebe Cates, and Billy's Christmas present from his father, a Mogwai named Gizmo (Voiced expertly by Howie Mandel). When Billy is given Gizmo his father tells him the three rules you must follow, the same rules that were told to him at the antique store in Chinatown. The three rules are; Never expose the Mogwai to light, especially sunlight (it will kill the Mogwai), Never get it wet (it will multiply) and Never feed the Mogwai after midnight.......

So after hearing these rules, do we really expect Billy to be able to follow them? Of course not!!! Shortly after getting Gizmo as a gift Billy manages to spill a glass of water on Gizmo. When the water is spilled Gizmo convulses and five more Mogwai's (we think... Later we are told these are gremlins) are produced in the process. One of the new five named "Stripe" is the leader and is very hostile towards Gizmo. Why the hostility? The new five are very hostile Mogwai's and Gizmo just doesn't go that way, throughout the movie he stays a faithful friend to Billy and tries to protect him. Gizmo is adorable and the other five are hideous creatures. Billy wants to know more about Mogwai's so he takes Gizmo to his science teacher so he can hopefully find out more. Billy ends up feeding 5 of the Mogwai's after midnight (Gizmo refuses) and chaos ensues.......With Stripe leading the pack. I recommend this movie to anyone and everyone, it is a fantastic film that I watch at least 2-3 times a year, it never gets old and it has been a favorite of mine for so long. Gremlins does have a sequel called "Gremlins 2: The New Batch" which was just recently released onto blu ray.

Interesting Fact About Gremlins Film: While getting a PG rating, Gremlins was one of two films (the other Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom) in 1984 to influence the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating.
